Combined Filters Neighbors Distance Codes Pick 3 The Neighbors Distance Codes (NB-DSC) is a so called "combined filter", a combination of a digit and a math filter. It requires two separate parts to create the filter.
Neighbors (NB) is yet another alternative to the old VTracs (VTX). Instead of combining digits by adding 5 it selects the all even digits with the next odd digit up, 0 with 1, 2 with 3 all the way to 8 with 9. It is another efficient way to combine an odd with an even digit.
To show you how to calculate the Neighbors Distance Codes filter for a Pick 3 number here an example step by step.
Part I: Pick 3 Neighbors Distance Codes Conversion Step 1: Divide 501 into separate digits: 501 => 5 0 1 Step 2: Convert each digit to filter: 5 = 3 0 = 1 1 = 1 Step 3: Combine the filters to a string: 3 1 1 = 311
Part II: Pick 3 Neighbors Distance Codes Conversion Step 1: Divide the number into separate digits: 311 => 3 1 1 Step 2: Calculate the distance between each digit and the next (the last digit with the first): 3 to 1 => 2 1 to 1 => 0 1 to 3 => 2 Step 3: Convert distances to codes (0=E[qual], 1 & 9 = C[onsecutive], 2-8 = N[one]): 2 => N 0 => E 2 => N Step 4: Combine the filters to a string: N E N = NEN
